Earl Hunter Passes Following Long Illness a Former Postmaster R. Earl Hunter, 80, former Lowell businessman and postmaster from February, 1915 to February 1923, passed away Thursday, April 8, at Butterworth hospital, following an illness of about five years. Funeral services were held at Roth Funeral Home Saturday morning at 10:30 and burial was made in Chapel Hills Memorial Gardens, Grand Rapids. The Rev. Norman G. Woon officiated. Mr. Hunter was born in Keene township August 11, 1873 the only child of DeWitt and Jennie Hunter. He attended Cutler school, Lowell High school and Ferris Institute in Big Rapids. He spent four years in Atlanta, Ga., traveling in the South for J.B. Lewis Boot & Shoe Co., and later settled in Lowell where he operated a coal and wood business for a number of years. In 1908 he was married to Ruby M. Moore of Listowel, Ont., who survives him, along with a daughter, Maxine, now Mrs. Paul Smith of Keene, and seven grandchildren. Another daughter, Mrs. Helen Ogg, preceded him in death in 1948. Mr. Hunter was a member of the Lowell Congregational church for 56 years and had been an active deacon and member of the choir for many years. He was interested in all church activities and civic progress in the village and was the second oldest living member of his church.
