October 6, 1982 ANNA HUNTZINGER LAKE ODESSA-A 102 year old Lake Odessa woman died at Provincial ouse in Hastings Sept. 28. Mrs. Anna Huntzinger, was born May 15, 1880, and had lived most of her life in the Lake Odessa area, was one of the first telephone operators in the area. In an interview in 1960, she said that she wasn't sure she was 100 years old, and a headstone prepared years ago gave her birthdate as 1881. Information from family members, including a late sister, Glendora Kloss, indicated that she was born in 1880. She herself was not sure, she said, but a birth certificate was found to verify the 1880 date. The daughter of Ira and Harriet Anway, she grew up on a farm near Lake Odessa. She said in 1960 that she had lived for a few years in Grand Rapids when she was young and after her marriage, lived for a time in Big Rapids. She was married in 1926 to Charles Huntzinger, a former Ford autombile dealer in Lake Odessa. He died in 1943. In the 1980 interview, she recalled her first sight of an airplane in the early years of this century. She also said that he had always enjoyed working but that in recent years she had "slowed down to almost nothing" and referred to herself as "lazy and tired". Active in the Lake Odessa Congregational Church, she was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and did volunteer Red Cross work. She is survived by a stepson, Charles beard of Bellevue; four nephews, Keith and Dale Kloss of Lake Odessa, Jack Huntzinger of Pontiac and Roger Kloss of Los Angeles; and one niece, Doris Kloss of Lake Odessa. Funeral services were Friday at 1 pm from the Pickens-Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa, the Rev. Randall Kohls of the Lake Odessa Congregational Church officiating. Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery.
