The Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard, Saturday, February 24, 1940

Funeral services for Roy Merton Hurd, 61, who died Friday evening, February 
23, shortly after 7:30 o’clock at his home in South Ionia, will be held Monday 
afternoon, February 26, at 12:30 o’clock from the Myers funeral home.  
Interment will be held at New Haven Center, which is north of Carson City, as 
soon after the services as possible.

He was born in New Haven township, Gratiot county, May 5, 1878, the son of 
Albert L. Hurd and Ada Everest Hurd.  He came to Ionia about 20 years ago and 
for 14 years was connected with the Ionia county road commission.

Surviving are the widow, D. Mona, one son, Howard M., of Lansing; three 
daughters, Mrs. Nina Turk of Ionia, Mrs. Vera Dunsmore of Marshall, and Mrs. 
Ruth Wortman of Ionia; two sisters, Mrs. Harvey Humphrey of Howard City and 
Mrs. Floyd Callett of Lansing, and five grandchildren.
