Hutchins, widow of the late John B. Hutchins, closed her eyes in death Friday p.m., shortly before four o’clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Robt. Beard, Lafayette street. She was nearing her sixtieth year in a life which shone resplendent with kindly acts performed. Her last illness was a long one and severe, but through it all, in her conscious moments, there was a true Christian resignation that abided quietly for the curtains to be drawn which divide time and eternity. The funeral of Mrs. Charlotte E. Hutchins was attended from the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Robt. Beard, Monday afternoon at two o’clock. Rev. F.O. Dickey, of the First Baptist church, was the officiating clergyman. He used as the basis for his discourse, this portion of the 18th verse of I Samuel, II: “And thou shalt be missed, because thy seat will be empty.” He presented some sweet and pivotal thoughts upon the influences of motherhood, which was most instructively the consolation of this theme. Applied to the busy and social sides of her life, the friends of the quarter century up to ten years ago, will recall a purity and self-sacrifice that established a warrant for the text. She lived and died at peace with the world. Rev. Alfred Cornell, for many years her pastor, in the early days when she was an ardent and active worker in church affairs, assisted in the services, and spoke most tenderly of the deceased, whom he knew so well. Misses Kate Benedict and Pearl Freeman sang the selections signified by the deceased in her lifetime. The bearers were her two sons and two sons-in-law. The floral tributes were many, and most beautiful were the designs. The remains were conveyed to Highland Park cemetery, where they were placed in the family lot beside those of the husband who preceded her.
