The Lowell Ledger, Thursday, June 12, 1913


The Portland papers of last week paid high tribute to the character of the 
late Will J. Hutchison, who illness and death have been chronicled in these 
columns.  He was a prominent educator and well-loved resident of Portland for 
many years.  He married a Lowell girl, Jessie S. Gardner, who with a son, 
Llewellyn, a prominent member of the graduating class of 1913, Lowell High 
school, are left to mourn their great loss.  The family have during the past 
year made their home with Mrs. Hutchison’s mother, Mrs. Gardner, in Lowell, 
though Mr. Hutchison was a commercial traveler, and was stricken by death at 
Spartanburg, South Carolina, where he was attended in his last hours by his 
faithful wife.

The body was brought to Portland where funeral services were held at the home 
of Mrs. Jane Hutchison, mother of the deceased; and it was laid to rest with 
Masonic honors by the brethren of Portland lodge, on Thursday afternoon, June 
5.
