May 23, 2018 ROBERT DAN HUYCK,95 Robert Dan Huyck, age 95, of Lake Odessa, MI. passed on Sunday, May 20, 2018, at the Spectrum Health Pennock Campus in Hastings, MI., surrounded by his family, after a brief illness. He was born on March 28, 1923, to Arthur J. And Mary Ione (Blackmer) Huyck in Carson City, MI. Bob could complete whatever challenges he faced. As a young boy he built a motorcycle out of parts he found on the farm. On March 21, 1943 he married Doris Girvin and they just celebrated their 75th anniversary. Early in their married life he farmed and ran "Bob Radio Repair" out of their home. They both went on to pursue careers in education. Toward the end of his teaching career he became a residential builder and provided housing for many families, starting the Lakewood Mobile Home Estates in Lake Odessa. At 80 he was the general contractor of the Lakewood Family Heath Care (now know as Spectrum Pennock family Health). Music was one of his favorite pastimes, he also enjoyed researching family genealogy. The grandchildren also brought much joy into his life. His love for Christ lead him to be an active member of the Congregational Church in both Crystal, MI. and Lake Odessa,MI. He was involved with the Lake Odessa Historical Society, the Lions Club, 1st families of Ionia County, moving of the Depot and helping with the design of the Depot Museum and Grand Marshall of theLake Odessa Fair. For several years he was active with the New Horizons Youth Ministry, with one of the group homes in the Dominican Republic being named in his and Doris' honor. In the last few years he could be seen driving his green electric car or golf cart uptown for his morning coffee and to visit with his friends at C & R's. Bob was predeceased by; his parents, brother Donald, Keith and David, grandson Charles Michael Lowe and son-in-law Gary Debler. He will be dearly missed by: wife Doris, children Connie (Dan) Lowe of Spring Hill, FL and Colleen Debler of Lake Odessa, MI., granddaughters, Jamie (Mike) Grant, Mandy (Scott) Jackson, Page (Scot) Neustifter, Kecia (Mike) Dillon and step-grandson Randy Debler. great-grandchildren, Kyle (Stephanie Closson) Jackson, Rececca (Tom) Prowdley, Shannon (Scott Rodgers) Jackson, Madison (Kevin Hoskin) Neustifter, Maison Neustifter, Ben, Megan and Nathan Dillon, 10 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on May 22, 2018, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Koops Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held on May 23, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Koops Funeral Chapel. Burial will take place at a later date in Lakeside Cemetery, Lake Odessa, MI. In lieu of flowers the family would like donations be made to Jordan lake Trail, Lake Odessa Lions or the Lake Odessa Historical Society.
