Hyland, 84, of Portland, passed away on March 31, 2005. He was born in DeWitt on Jan. 3, 1921 the son of Ward and Tillie (Nelson) Hyland. Mr. Hyland was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corp. and retired from General Motors as an electrician after 30 years of service. Wayne was one of the first in Portland to service and fix televisions and radios. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James, Vivian “Bud”, and Charles “Buster”; sisters, Esther and Pauline. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Dolores; daughters, Cheryl (Gary) Herp of Wellington, Fla., Marie Hyland-Willis of Lansing, and Vicki (Robert) Weller of Portland; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Services were conducted by the Rev. Marilyn V. Danielson, Pastor, April 2, at the First Congregational Church of Portland. Interment followed at Balcom Cemetery in Ionia with military honors provided by the Portland VFW Post #4090. Arrangements were entrusted to Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.
