The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Saturday, May 2, 1931

The remains of Charles J., 18-months-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hyland of 
Bay City, was brought to Ionia Friday for burial in Highland Park cemetery.  
The little fellow died in Mercy hospital as a result of burns sustained a few 
days ago.  While playing in the kitchen of their home, the child tipped a 
teakettle of boiling water upon himself.  He was taken to the hospital 
immediately and lived for several days afterward.

Mr. and Mrs. Hyland had many friends in the vicinity of Ionia who 
sympathetically surrounded the little casket with choice flowers.  Rev. W. F. 
Boettcher conducted the services.
