Ionia Daily Sentinel Standard, 26 Dec 1947

One of the first Pere Marquette railroad engineers, John Ikner, 91, formerly of
Ionia, died at the home of his son, James E. Ikner, of Grand Rapids, Wednesday
morning.  His son is a C. & O. conductor.  A former resident of Ionia, Mr. Ikner
moved to Grand Rapids 15 years ago after he retired from the railroad.  He was a
member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

Surviving besides the son are two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are to be conducted Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Obrien
Colonial home, and at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Andrew’s cathedral.  Burial will be
in the Ionia Mt. Olivet cemetery at 11:30 a.m.
