Simmons Ingersoll, daughter of Henry and Garrietta Jessup, was born Feb. 5, 1815, at Romulus, Seneca county, N.Y., and died Feb. 11, 1912, at Matherton, Ionia county, Mich., aged 97 years and 6 days. She was one of a family of five children, three sons and two daughters, who with her parents have all preceded her to the spirit world. Mrs. Ingersoll moved with her parents when ten years of age to Ovid where she was converted at the age of 15 years and united with the M. E. church in 1830, making her a member for 82 years. In 1838 she was married to Philo H. Simmons and moved to Eaton county in 1840. In 1875 she was married to Capt. C. J. Ingersoll. At his death she went to Nebraska and returned to Michigan in 1898 and has since resided with her niece and family, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Williamson at Matherton. Mrs. Ingersoll being in feeble health for some years was prevented from attending public religious services but she loved to converse on the precious promises that are given us in the Holy Bible, the book she loved the most. There are left a large number of relatives and friends to the demise of this loved one but they need not to mourn as those who have no hope.
