Grand Rapids, Mich., Oct. 7. – Mrs. Abby Judson Irish, wife of Henry D. Irish, died yesterday morning at the home of W. H. Cook, 108 LaGrave avenue, Grand Rapids, after an illness covering a period of three years. Mrs. Irish was born in Shelbourne, Vt., May 25, 1829, and came to Ionia, Mich., at the age of 18. She was married to Henry D. Irish at Ionia, February 14, 1854, and for a number of years was a resident of Grand Haven, where Mr. Irish conducted the old Cutler House. Something over 25 years ago Mr. Irish removed his family to Grand Rapids where their home has been ever since. Mrs. Irish was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian church from the time of her arrival to Grand Rapids, and was also a member of the Old Settlers’ association. She was known among her many friends as an earnest and devout Christian, devoting her life to her family and her church. She was descended from some of the best of the old New England stock and followed out the high moral tenets which she inherited from her Pilgrim ancestors. Mrs. Irish has been in failing health for a number of years, and a confirmed invalid for the past three years, but with all the suffering was of a cheerful temperament and retained her faculties until stricken with the paralysis which caused her death. Her loss will be keenly felt by a large circle of warm friends. She is survived by her husband and one son, Frank H. Irish, both of this city. Funeral services will be held from the residence, 108 LaGrave avenue at 9 o’clock Tuesday morning. Burial will be at Ionia.
