Jackson, Sr., died this morning at the home of his son, John K. Jackson, in Decorah, Iowa, where he went about three weeks ago. The sad though not unexpected news was received in Ionia this afternoon by S. C. L. Brown, the telegram coming from James I. Williston, son-in-law of the deceased. Mr. Jackson went to Decorah with Mr. and Mrs. Williston and was taken sick soon after his arrival there with kidney trouble. George K. Jackson, Jr. was called there last Monday and the other daughter, Mrs. A. P. Fleckenstein left Wednesday evening hoping to reach her father before he passed away, but could not do so. George K. Jackson was one of the best known residents of Ionia. His life was one of good citizenship and honest toil, following his occupation as a painter and decorator until but a few months ago when his health began to give away. Mr. Jackson came here from Maine in the early sixties and cleared the lot where he lived. He built the fine home at the corner of Union street and Lincoln avenue, where the family has lived for probably half a century. Mrs. Jackson died many years ago, she being a sister of Mrs. I. H. Thayer, who arrived in Ionia only a few days ago to make her home in the old Thayer homestead, returning here with her son who hopes to regain his health through change of climate. No resident of Ionia will be more keenly missed than George K. Jackson. Always light hearted, following the everyday walk of life in the spirit of goodness and cheer, he made friends everywhere. Ionia knew him as an honest, desirable citizen and will look back upon his life as that of a pioneer who did his part in building the city and a life it will always regard highly. Mr. Jackson was about 75 years of age and the remains will be brought to Ionia for interment, further particulars of which will be given tomorrow. Subsequent Publication: Thursday, July 23, 1914 The remains of the late George Jackson, Sr. will arrive from Decorah, Iowa at 8:13 tonight and will be conveyed to the Fleckenstein residence on Union street, where the funeral will be held Friday afternoon. Those accompanying the remains here will be Mr. and Mrs. George Jackson, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. James I. Williston and Mr. and Mrs. John Jackson. Subsequent Publication: Friday, July 24, 1914 The funeral services for the late George K. Jackson, Sr., were held this afternoon from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. A. P. Fleckenstein, Union street. The services were attended by a large number of sorrowing friends of the deceased who numbered practically every older resident of the city. Rev. Marshall officiated and several favorite songs were sung Mesdames Thane Benedict and Morris Phelps. The body was carried to its last resting place in Highland park by S. C. L. Brown, L. P. Brock, J. C. Beattie, F. M. Hecox, Alexander Montgomery and Bert Lampkin. Those here from out of the city to attend the funeral were George K. Jackson, Jr., and wife of Detroit and John Jackson of Decorah, Iowa.
