Thelma was a woman of small stature but was large in faith and love for her family. She was born on April 22, 1912 in Clarksville Michigan to Lewis and Etoile (Bebee) Jackson. Being the oldest of seven children she learned responsibility at an early age, by helping her mother raise her siblings after the death of her father Lewis. On May 31, 1931 she married Homer Jackson. They farmed their land raising grain, animals and 10 children. Their children are Elden (Nettie), Joe, Erma (Leroy) Thomas, John (Carolyn) , Claudia (Bill) Barker, Lee (Carole), Paul (Judy), Bruce, Kathie (Charles) Scofield, son-in-law Pat(Maragret) Maurer. She also leaves behind one sister Ester Auspugh, 33 grandchildren, 72 great grandchildren, 31great-great grandchildren, and one great-great-great grandchild. Preceding her in death are: her parents, husband Homer, daughter Julie Maurer, Daughters in law Betty Jackson and Marilee Jackson. After the children were raised Homer and Thelma would still be seen working in their well- maintained gardens, Homer in his vegetable garden and Thelma with her beautiful flowers. They would often be seen on the back roads around Lake Odessa on their cart behind their large black Percheron horse Molly. As the world rushed by, they preferred a slower paced life. At Thelma's 100th birthday party on April 22, 2012 Lakewood High School bleachers were needed for pictures. All the people in the pictures owe their lives to this small quiet woman who lived a rich and fruitful life. Thelma spent the last four4 years of her life at Cornerstone Living Center in Hastings where she received excellent care from Wayne, Patti and their caring staff. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, March 17, 2014 from 2 till 4 p.m. and 6 till 8 p.m. at Koops Funeral Chapel, 935 4th Ave, Lake Odessa, MI 48849. Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the Koops Funeral Chapel. Interment will take place at the Lakeside Cemetery, Lake Odessa MI. Memorials may be given to the Cornerstone Assisted Living Center, 2900 Kellems Dr, Hastings MI 49058.
