December 10, 2022 Wayne Clyde Jackson Wayne Clyde Jackson, age 90 of Wyoming MI passed away Tuesday Nov., 29, 2022 at Swartz Creek Nursing Home, Genesee County, MI after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease and Prostate Cancer. Wayne was born in Lake Odessa, Ionia County, on December 30, 1931 to Clyde Wayne Jackson and Alice Hester (Preston) Jackson. Shortly after he turned 18 years old he took his Basic Training at Fort Ord, CA for the U.S. Army and then was sent to Japan as part of the 24th Infantry Division. Wayne spent about a year fighting in the Korean War. After his return to the States Wayne completed his service at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis. On November 10, 1951 he married Lois Durkee in Lake Odessa. Lois was the daughter of Ronald Elwin Durkee and Helen Imogene (Mutschler) Durkee. After his service Wayne took a job s a dispatcher for a trucking company for a short while.He then began working at the General Motor's Fisher Body Plant in Wyoming.He worked for a couple of years on the shipping dock and then was promoted to the Engineering Department, where he worked until his retirement at 55 in 1987. Wayne was active in his community. He was a little league baseball coach for a time (his policy was to give every person on the team playing time for every game and he would not allow his young pitchers to throw curve balls de to the possibility of arm damage late in life), and he was a Cub Master and Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts. He served on the Wyoming Michigan Planning Commission.He was part of the team who fought annexation of Wyoming to the City of Grand Rapids and this team won its case before Michigan Supreme Court. He also served as a director for the "Wyoming Michigan Days" celebration in the 1960s. After his retirement from general Motors Wayne formed a partnership with the late Pinky Randall of Houghton Lake and they called their company ARJAY Sales Company. They sold replica Chevrolet piggy banks through various Chevrolet dealerships across the county. Wayne was an active antique Chevrolet collector over the years and has restored quite a few antique automobiles. He was a member of the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America (VCCA) where he was the regional director for the lower Michigan Region. He was part of the team that restored a General Motors Futurliner. For many years Wayne wintered in Zephyrhills, FL. and resided in Wyoming MI, during the summers. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents,Clyde and Alice Jackson; his in-laws, Ronald and Helen Durkee, his step-father-in-law, Stanton Jay Strickland; his wife of 56 years, Lois Joy (Durkee) Jackson; his siblings, Marjory Leone (Jackson) McDowell (Donald), Harold Lloyd Jackson(Gladys Clark), (Eva Jean Jones),Fredrick Preston Jackson,Louis Dean(who died shortly after his birth); brothers-in-law, Robert Mayhew and Robert Durkee, step-brother-in-law,Steven Strickland; Uncles Lloyd Milton Jackson and Harold Judd Jackson; Aunt Virginia Eldiena (Preston) Allen; and numerous cousins, a niece and a nephew. Wayne is survived by his son, Kenneth Wayne Jackson; his daughter, Barbara Lynn (Jackson) Clement (Thomas); his grandsons, Joshua Marvin Clement, Trenton Jay Clement, Eric Christopher Jackson, Cole Curtis Clement (Rebecca); his granddaughters;Lynette Marie (VerBurg) Conklin (Charlie),Holly Christina Jackson, Lacey Lynn Wakefield; 15 great-grandchildren(with one more on the way); one great-great-granddaughter, one sister; sister-in-law, Carolyn Mary (Durkee) Mayhew, Marian (Benson) Durkee, Trudy (Huston) Jackson; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. There will be a Celebration of Life scheduled to be held at a later date.
