The Lake Odessa Wave, March 1915
Mr. Erastus Jackson was born in Augusta, Canada May 4, 1844 and died at the 
home of his daughter, Mrs. Lennox Gilliland, March 8, 1915, aged 70 years, 210 
months and 4 days.  In 1865 he came to Michigan and in 1866 was united in 
marriage to Elizabeth Worden.  To this union was born eight children all of 
whom were at his bedside during his recent illness with the exception of Mrs. 
Myrtie Gilliland who was in Grand Rapids recovering from an operation and Mrs. 
Etta Knapp of Evansville, Ind.

He was converted in 1875 and joined the church where he has been a faithful 
follower of his Lord and died with his faith in Christ.  He was ever a loving 
husband and father and a kind and obliging neighbor.  No one ever asked of him 
a favor but that he gave of his help as he could.  In all his acquaintances 
not one enemy is numbered.

He leaves to mourn his loss a wife, eight children; Mrs. Emma Clemons, Mrs. 
Lizzie Batchelder, Mrs. Mae Sedore, Mrs. Etta Knapp, of Evansville, Ind., Mrs. 
Alice Gilliland, Mrs. Myrtie Gilliland, Mr. Ray Jackson, of Clarksville, Mr. 
Roy Jackson, twenty-two grand children and four great-grandchildren, besides a 
host of other relatives and friends.

The end, which came with one hand in that of each son, was so peaceful that we 
can but realize he is asleep in Jesus.

Sleep on dearest father
And take thy rest.
God called thee Home,
Who thought it best.
