James died at 6:30 Sunday night, at his home here. He went to California a few months ago, in hopes of improvement to his health, but found no benefit. He returned from there five or six weeks ago, and has failed steadily since. He leaves a wife and six children, the oldest only about 15 years old. He had $1,000 insurance in Modern Woodmen, and $1,000 in another beneficiary society, but leaves little else for maintenance of the family. He came to Ionia about three years ago and was generally looked and looked upon as a competent man in his profession, and would doubtless have done well in a business way, but for the failure of his health. David James, father, and Chas. James, brother of the late Dr. James, Strathroy, Canada, Mr. and Mrs. J.N. McNally of Saginaw, the former a brother of Mrs. James, and Mrs. Anna Goodman of Buffalo, a sister of Mrs. James, arrived on Tuesday, to attend funeral on Wednesday.
