The members of Queen Esther chapter, Order of Eastern Star, of which Mrs. James had been a member since a girl, attended the service. The members of Beatrice Rebekah Lodge No. 100 and the employees of the Quality store also attended. A comforting sermon was delivered by Rev. Charles J. Krase, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church and prayer was offered by Rev. Joseph H. Green, of the Presbyterian church. Chandler Haight, a lifelong friend of Mrs. James sang two solos. A beautiful display of floral offerings was arranged in the house, while the casket remained in the hearse during the service. Burial took place in the family lot at Oak Hill cemetery. The bearers were George Cutler, Fred Cutler, Archie Anderson, Vern Anderson, Henry Voelker, and George Lauster, all relatives of the deceased. Mrs. James, whose maiden name was Louise, was born on South Dexter street February 3, 1869, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Cutler Sr. The family moved into the home on King street in 1870. Their married life was almost equally divided between Brooklyn, New York, Zanesville, O., and Chicago. She was a yearly visitor in Ionia and for the past few years had spent practically every summer with her sister, Mrs. Archie Anderson. She was an active member of the Epworth Methodist church of Chicago and was the treasurer of the Women’s Foreign Missionary society of that church. Her death occurred in Chicago Tuesday morning, October 30, and came as a great shock to her many friends and relatives. Those here from out of the city to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. George Cutler of Chicago; a brother-in-law, Homer James, of Zanesville, O.; Mr. and Mrs. C. Miller, Mrs. J. Anderson, Mrs. Sophia Feibing, Miss Mary Feibung, of Muir, and Vern Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. Don Cutler, of Detroit.
