James, aged 77, of 115 S. Prospect St., died Saturday at St. Mary’s Hospital, Grand Rapids. Mr. James was born in Chicago, Ill., Oct. 7, 1885 and had resided in Belding for the past 60 years. He was a supervisor of Ionia county and had held that position since Oct. 12, 1959. A former master mechanic of the Richardson Silk Mills, he later became superintendent of the Belding Basket Company from which he retired in 1945. He was married to the former Gertrude Putman who died in 1940 and in 1945 was married to Dorothy Clemons. Mr. James was a member of the Central Methodist church of Belding, a life member of the Belding Lodge 355 F & AM, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and the Saladin Shrine. Other survivors, besides his wife Dorothy, are one son, George of Kansas City, Mo.; one brother, Albert of Putman, Conn.; one grandchild, Ruth Anne James of Kansas City, Mo. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Huffman Funeral Home with the Rev. Ralph Dean of the Methodist church, officiating and Masonic services were under the auspices of Belding Lodge 355 F & AM. Burial was in River Ridge cemetery.
