Sept. 27, 2016 Excerpts from obituary DONALD L. JANDERNOA of Grand Rapids. World war II pilot died Sept 24, 2016-age 92 at Grand Rapids, Mi Born 1924 in Pewamo, MI son of Doc and Betty Jandernoa Graduated from Pewamo High School in 1941 and enlisted in U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942. Attained the rank of First Lieutenant at age 21, serving as Pilot and Commander of a B-24 Liberator bomber with the 454th Bombardment Group, 15th Air Force. Flew 23 missions. He and his crew had to bail out of their damaged plane and landed in the 43 degree Adriatic Sea near the Isle of Hvar. Was rescued by Yugoslavian fisherman. Received the Distinguished Flying Cross, European theatre Ribbon, & Air Medal with 2 Oak leaf Clusters. Don earned business degree from the University of Detroit. Married Patricia Loftus & moved to Dearborn, MI where he worked for Burroughs. Moved back to Pewamo 1952 to resume farming for two years before starting his life Insurance career, that lasted for 61 years. Was a life member of Million dollar Round Table and President of numerous Insurance and financial planning organizations. Was Co-founder and Board member of Garfield Park Neighborhood association, Chairman for 13 years of Green View Point Park Restoration & Improvement Committee. Preceded in death by wife, Patricia of 46 years., parents, 1 brother, 2 sisters Married Lois Lehman in 1996 Survived by wife, Lois, five children, Beth, Mike, Mark. Kathleen and Terry, 14 grandchildren 12 great-grandchildren, sister, brother, many nieces & nephews Visitation Thurs. Sept 29, from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Zaafman memorial Chapel, 2800 Burton St. St, Grand Rapids with Rosary prayed at 7:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Andrew Cathedral, 301 Sheldon Ave. SE. Grand Rapids, Friday, Sept. 30, at 2:30 with military honors to follow the Mass. Memorial contributions may be sent to Ionia County Treasure, Park maintenance Fund, Courthouse, 100 W.
