Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard, 29 Feb 1944

Miss Dorothy Janes, 43, former teacher at Grand Rapids David Technical high 
school, died suddenly Monday afternoon at 4 o‘clock at the Ionia County 
Memorial hospital where she had been taken earlier that afternoon.  Death was 
the result of a heart ailment from which she had suffered for 20 years 
following a serious automobile accident.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank C. Janes, she was born December 12, 1899, in 
Camden.  She was a graduate of Central high school at Grand Rapids and Albion 
college.  She was a member of Delta Gamma society of Albion college, and of the 
First Methodist church of Ionia.

Her father, an alderman of the fourth ward in Ionia, head of the Ionia county 
defense council, was principal of Harrison Park school, Grand Rapids, for 15 
years before retiring and moving to Ionia in July, 1940.

Her only survivors are her parents.  Funeral services will be held Thursday 
afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Boynton funeral home.  Rev. F.G. Dunbar will 
officiate and burial will be in Palo cemetery.  The body will repose at the 
residence Wednesday noon until Thursday noon when it will be returned to the 
Boynton funeral home for services.
