Mrs. Catherine Janes, widow of the late Nicholas Janes, of Orange township, 
died at the old home, on Thursday, 21st inst., in her 70th year.  To this 
couple were born twelve children, 9 boys and 3 girls, only two of whom are now 
living – William and Louis, both farmers in same township; one son, Frank, was 
laid to rest only three weeks ago.  Deceased was born in Germany, came to 
America about 50 years ago; was married 48 years ago.  Funeral from the late 
home, on Saturday, conducted by Rev. B.H. Succop of this city; burial in Tuttle 
cemetery.

25 Years Ago – Items taken from Herald Quarter Century Ago…

Mrs.  Catherine Janes, who died recently in Orange, was the mother of the 
tallest family in the state.  A daughter and a son now living are respectively 
6 feet 3 inches and 6 feet 5 inches.  Four sons who are dead were 6-6 ˝, 6-9 ˝, 
6-10 ˝ and 6-7 1/2. A deceased daughter was 6 feet 7 inches.  Mrs. Janes stood 
6 feet and 1 inch.
