Ionia Sentinel-Standard
Mrs. Betty Jean Jeffery, 52, of 114 South Jackson, died in Butterworth hospital 
in Grand Rapids Sunday afternoon where she had been admitted four days 
previously.  Born Jan. 31, 1920 in Ionia, a daughter of Roy and Alice Whitscell, 
she attended schools in Ionia before moving to Jackson where she made her home 
several years.  She returned to Ionia in 1951, where she married Frank Jeffery, 
January 3, 1953.  She and her husband, made their home at the present location 
since that time.  Employed at the Elks club, Mrs. Jeffery was a member of 
Rebekah lodge and attended First Christian church.

Surviving besides her parents and husband are two sons, Theodore of rural Ionia; 
and Thomas of Grand Rapids; two step-daughters, Mrs. Timothy Belen of 
Westphalia, and Mrs. Richard Whitney of Belding; 14 grandchildren and two great 
grandchildren.  A step-daughter and three brothers preceded her in death. 
 
The body is at Leddick funeral home where friends and relatives may call from 7 
to 9 pm Monday and Tuesday and 2 to 4 pm Tuesday.  Services will be from Leddick 
funeral home at 1 pm September 27, Rev E. C. Watterworth of First Christian 
church officiating.  Burial will be in Balcom cemetery
