Ionia Sentinel - Thursday, May 24, 1900

Died at her home in Grand Rapids, May 14, of Bright's disease, Mrs. Dr. Alton 
Jeffries, Mary Ellicott was born at Maple Rapids, Oct. 11, 1867. She was 
married to Dr. Jeffries July 3, 1889. Three children came to bless their union; 
the second, a daughter, five months old, died three years ago last October, the 
eldest daughter, nine  years old, and infant son one week old, remain to 
comfort the bereaved husband. The funeral was held at Matherton, Wednesday, May 
16, Rev. E. Mudge, of Maple Rapids, officiating. Interment in East Plains 
cemetery. Dr. Jeffries and family were residents of this place several years 
and moved to Carson City three years ago and from there to Grand Rapids last 
fall. The funeral cortege was the largest ever held in Matherton, there being 
many present from Carson City, Maple Rapids, Pewamo and this village.
