Jenkins, reliet of the late Phlatus Jenkins, died at the home of her son, O. N. Jenkins, in this village early Sunday morning, aged a little more than 74 years. Mrs. Jenkins was a native of Hector, Tompkins county, N.Y., but came to Washtenaw county, Mich., at an early age but afterward settled in Jackson county and came to Portland with her husband 40 years ago. Her husband, a son, and a daughter preceded her several years to the shores of the unknown land and for several years she had made her home with her son, O. N. Jenkins. She had not enjoyed good health for some time, and for a few months past has been a great sufferer from inflammatory rheumatism which had left her in an almost helpless condition. This coupled with other afflictions, including heart trouble, caused her death. But through all her sufferings she was patient and uncomplaining and her end was peaceable and without pain, for she had been in a nearly unconscious condition for some days. Mrs. Jenkins was one of a family of ten children and two brothers at Pittsfield, Washtenaw county, a brother at Carson city, Nev., and a sister at Ann Arbor survive her. She was a kind neighbor and an indulgent mother. Funeral services in her honor will be held from the home of O.N. Jenkins on Wednesday afternoon of this week at 3 o’clock, Rev. Millard to officiate at request of deceased.
