Jenks, was called by death passing away peacefully at his home at about three o’clock in the afternoon, he came to Belding in an early day and worked at the carpenter trade until his health failed. At the funeral held Monday there was a very large gathering of old neighbors and friends and many floral offerings covered the casket. Among those present from out of the city were Mrs. Bernice Powell and daughter Mrs. W. Gould of Ionia, Mr. and Mrs. Wm Batson of Big Rapids, Morton Jenks and Mrs. F. A. Hudson of Grand Rapids. Albert D. Jenks was born at Athens, Mass., on December 22, 1840 and died at his home in this city, March 13, 1918. He came with his parents to Michigan about sixty-two years ago and settled on a farm in Otisco. When the Civil War broke out, he enlisted in Company C, First Regiment, Michigan engineers and mechanics, on December 22, 1863, and was honorably discharged at Nashville, Tenn., on September 22, 1865, after taking part in that memorable march “With Sherman to the Sea”. He, then, came to Belding where he has since resided. He was married to Libbie Hendricks at Ionia, Michigan, On March 6, 1878. They came to their home, which he had just built and where they have resided during the thirty-five years of their married life. He is survived by his widow and two children, Morton of Grand rapids, Mich., and Laila, of this city, also three brothers and one sister, and several nephews and nieces. The funeral services were held at the residence on Monday, March 17, 1913, conducted by Rev. G. W. Maxwell. Mrs. Friedly sang, accompanied by Mrs. Maxwell. The active pallbearers were his two brothers and four nephews, old and appreciated, friends acted as honorary pallbearers.
