Jenks was received here last Friday, he having died of erysipelas in the hospital at Kalamazoo, where he had been for several weeks for treatment. His sons Floyd and Ellsworth Jenks, together with Ben Friedly, left immediately for Kalamazoo and brought the remains to his late home on the farm in Grattan Saturday. The deceased was fifty-four years old, son of the late Erastus S. Jenks, and has lived in the township of Otisco and Grattan nearly all his life. Several years ago he was actively engaged in the produce and commission business in this city and did a very large amount of work in that line, buying and shipping for himself and also for other parties. A few years ago his health failed on account of his active work and close application to his business, and a general breaking down of his life resulted. He was a genial, whole-souled man, kind and generous, and was well-liked by a large circle of friends. Mr. Jenks was an active member of the Grange and Farmers’ Clubs in which he took a great interest, and he belonged also to the Woodmen lodge, and other fraternal and social societies. He was a member of the Goodfellowship club and also of the Gleaners. Besides his loyal wife Mr. Jenks leaves four children, two sons and two daughters – Floyd and Ellsworth Jenks, Mrs. Dot Nash of Grattan, and Mrs. Lulu McNichol of Lost Springs, Kansas. Two brothers and a sister also survive him – Ambie and Perry Jenks, and Mrs. Cornelia Storey. The funeral at the house Tuesday afternoon, was very largely attended, and the many flowers attested the esteem in which he was held. Rev. H.S. Ellis officiated and the burial was made in the Otisco cemetery in the family lot.
