D. A. Jewell received a dispatch this morning announcing the death, yesterday, at Canton, near Boson, Mass., of Sophia, widow of Stillman L. Jenks, a former resident of Ionia. Deceased had made her home with her daughter Annis, who was married something over a year ago to Rev. J. B. Fox, a Baptist minister, who had charge of a church at Canton. Deceased was 72 years of age. She came with her husband to this county in 1854, and their home was on a farm on south side of river opposite Prairie Creek. Mr. Jenks was interested for a time with D. A. Jewell and Wm. Milligan, in a sash, door and blind factory, in the old Baptist church building, moved to corner of Jackson and Main streets. He died in 1872. Mrs. Jenks leaves five children: Calvin, in New Mexico; Treat, a teacher near Michigan City; Annis, wife of Rev. J. B. Fox; Stillman G., a professor in Kalamazoo college; and Albert E., of Madison, Wis. She also leaves two sisters: Mrs. D. A. Jewell and Miss Lizzie Keeny of this city, and a brother in New York state. Deceased was a member of the Baptist church of this city, and the funeral services will be conducted by Rev. D. L. Martin, at the residence of Rev. D. A. Jewell, 342 Bliss street, at 1 p.m. Sunday. Interment will be beside her husband, in the city cemetery. Remains are expected to arrive her tomorrow.
