Jennings died on Sunday shortly after twelve o’clock, noon. He had been confined to his bed for some two months, with a complication of diseases, involving, also, the heart, which has long given him much serious worry. Death, therefore, was not unlooked for, though he had been quite as well as usual, for the several days preceeding his demise. The deceased was born in Geneseo county, New York, January 16, 1819. He located in Michigan in 1842, taking up a farm home on Section 24 of Ronald, in the same year. Mr. Jennings was long a well known character in local politics, and held numerous offices. He was sheriff of Ionia county for the two terms beginning in ’63 and ’65. He was appointed registe of the U.S. land office here in 1867 and held that position eight years. He was also a U.S. deputy marshal for several years. Mr. Jennings had been thrice married. His first wife was Fanny Smith; his second, Mary Sherwood, both of whom he married in York state. His last wife, also now deceased, was Maria Armstrong, a lady whom he knew in his younger days in the east, but to whom he was married at Quincy, Mich. Very few men had a wider acquaintance in the county than he. The funeral will be from the residence, Lafayette street, at 2:30 on Tuesday afternoon.
