She was born in Houghton-Hancock, but when she was four the entire family moved to Ionia. She graduated from Saints Peter and Paul Academy and went to work in Lansing for the State of Michigan. In 1936 she married Willis Jepson, a union that lasted until his death in 1997. During her marriage she was an active room mother, Girl Scout leader, Grey Lady Hospital volunteer, member of St. Cecilia’s Rosary Circle, Ionia Country Club and East Hills Racquet Club. After her daughters were grown, she worked part time for the Census Bureau for a period of eight years. Throughout her life she was a faithful parishioner at Saints Peter and Paul Church. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Teddy and Frank, four sisters, Aloysia, Helen, Katherine and Mattie, and her beloved grandson, Alex Kopchick. She and Willis had two daughters, Mary Beth (Tim) Dorch of Scotch Plains, NJ. and Kathleen (Joe) Kopchick of Rochester Hills; She is also survived by a sister Genevieve Brownley and four grandchildren, Timothy and Christopher Dorch, and Mary and Charlie Kopchick. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Melvin Fox, Pastor at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 19, 2005 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ionia. Rite of Committal will take place in the spring at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, Ionia. The family will receive friends at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Ionia from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, February 18, 2005. A rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SS. Peter and Paul Educational Trust Fund, or to the Ionia Area Hospice, in memory of Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Jepson.
