Jepson, 45, of Saranac died May 13, at 5:45 p.m. at the Soldiers Home hospital in Grand Rapids. He had been a patient there 14 months. Previous to that he had been in the Marine hospital, Detroit, and the Edward Hines hospital, Chicago. He was sent home for a short time before going to Grand Rapids. He was the son of Edson and Harriett Jepson. Born in Saranac, April 13, 1896. He married Evelyn Poole February 17, 1923. He was a member of the Masonic lodge and Eastern Star., also a charter member of the American Legion. In June 1917, he enlisted at Ionia in Company D, 126th infantry, 32nd division. They were first sent to Camp Grayling, from there to Camp MacArthur, Waco, Texas. In January, 1918 they…(illegible)….in February, arriving in France in March, 1918. He was made a corporal, and was in the Alsace-Lorraine and Chateau Theiry sectors. He was gassed during the Alsne- Marne offense. Surviving are two brothers, Robert of Ludington and Kenny of Grand Rapids; two sisters, Elizabeth Jepson and Gertrude Dodds of Saranac, the wife, Evelyn, and son Jimmy. The body will repose at home until 12:30 Friday at which time it will be removed to the Congregational church where it will repose from 1:00 to 2:00. The services will be conducted by Chaplain Captain Swartz, assisted by Rev. John W. Winger. Burial will be in Saranac cemetery, with the American Legion in charge at the grave.
