Belding Home News – Thursday, 18 August 1879
JERSEY – In this village, August 23, of congestion of the brain, Bertha L., 
only child of Edgar W. and Ida Jersey, aged 2 years, 11 months and 11 days.  
This child was taken sick on the 22d and the next day was a corpse.  The 
parents have the sympathy of the whole community in this bereavement.  Funeral 
services at residence on the 24th, conducted by Rev. E. Mudge.

“Smooth out the ringlets, close the blue eye;
No wonder such beauty was claimed in the sky;
Cross the hands gently o’er the white breast,
So like a mild spirit, strayed from the blest:
Bear her out softly, this idol of ours,
Let her grave slumbers be ‘mid the sweet flowers.”
