Mrs. Margaret Jersey died at about one o’clock yesterday morning at her home on Broas street, after a brief illness, aged nearly 80 years. Margaret Smith was born at Penn Yan, N. Y., on March 26, 1830. When nine years of age, she came to Michigan with her parents, locating in Macomb county. On May 24, 1848, she was married to Peter H. Jersey at Romeo, Mich. In 1865, she and family came to Otisco township and located on a farm near Smyrna, where they resided until 1878, when they removed to this city where she has since resided. Her husband died several years ago. Deceased was the mother of seven children, five of whom are now living, and are as follows: Mrs. Alice Mitchell and Ed. Jersey, of Belding; Henry, of Oklahoma; Peter J., of Cleveland, O.; and Niel, of Saginaw. Mrs. Jersey sowed a lifetime of good deeds, was a fond and affectionate mother and a kind, generous and obliging neighbor, and leaves, besides her relatives, a wide circle of friends to mourn their loss. Up to the hour of going to press we have not been informed when the funeral will take place. ---- Mrs. Margaret A. Jersey The death of Mrs. Margaret A. Jersey occurred at her late residence Wednesday, at the age of 85 years. She was one of the old pioneer residents of this city, the family coming here in an early day, and assisted in the early work of the settlement of this part of the country. Her husband died several years ago. She leaves four sons Henry, Peter, Neil and Edgar, and one daughter Alice Mitchell. Mrs. Jersey was one of those grand old-fashioned ladies whom all loved and loved her home and people.
