The pastor, Rev. Edward Drummond and Floyd N. Drake, pastor of the Methodist church, officiated. Alida Ann Jessup was born in Rensular county, N.Y. Aug. 12, 1839, and departed this life Jan. 8, 1929, aged 89 years, 4 mos and 26 days. She was the fourth of a family of nine children born to Isaac and Eleanor Jessup. With her parents she came to Plymouth, Michigan, when very small, and when she was about thirteen years of age they came to Matherton, Ionia county, which was her home until two years ago, when at the death of her sister she went to live with her niece, Mrs. S.A. Thuma of Ithaca, where death claimed her. She never married. She was a member of the United Bretheren church of Matherton over 61 years, and enjoyed it’s religious services whenever health would permit. Her favorite Bible text was John 14:1-3, which she repeated often and from it derived much consolation. She leaves to mourn her loss several nieces and nephews, besides many friends. Three sisters and five brothers preceded her in death. Burial was in the East Plains cemetery.
