The Ionia Daily Sentinel, Wednesday, August 7, 1935
James Jessup, 63, of Matherton, formerly of Ionia township, died Monday night 
at the New Borgess hospital in Kalamazoo following a long illness.   He had 
been in failing health for several years and was taken seriously ill several 
months ago.

He was born in Ohio and spent much of his life in Ionia township and 
vicinity.  He bought a farm in Ionia township in 1910 and lived there for 20 
years.  Mrs. Jessup died from injuries sustained in an auto accident in 1919 
and the following year he sold the farm and went to Matherton where he 
operated an oil station for several years.  

Surviving are three children, Star Jessup, Detroit; Russell of Kalamazoo, and 
a daughter, Mrs. Robert Conver, also of Kalamazoo.  Funeral services will be 
held from the Matherton church Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock.
