Caroline H. Jewell, 78, of Ionia died Friday at Ionia County Memorial Hospital.
 She was born Nov. 14, 1909, in Palo, the daughter of William G. and Maude A.
Hoople, and lived in the Ionia area all her life.  She attended Ionia area
schools and began work at the Sorosis Garment Co. in the 1920s, and later worked
for Ypsilanti Reed Furniture Co., Trojan Knitting Co., and Arden’s.  She was
married to Ace Jewell on Aug. 5, 1935, in Stanton.  He preceded her in death in
March 1974.

Surviving are a stepdaughter, Sally Chastain of Ortonville; a brother, William
Hoople Sr. of Palo; five sisters Zellah Bailey of Muir, Lenore Roberts of
Pontiac, Hazel Clark of Saranac; Beulah Hill of Ionia Veleta Redemsky of
Lakeland, Fla., and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday from Cook Funeral Home, with the Rev.
Timothy Gillette officiating.  Burial will be in Balcom Cemetery.  The family
will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday.  A memorial for the
American Cancer Society, Ionia County Unit, has been established, in care of the
funeral home.
