Mrs. Marcia Johnson Dies At Her Home

Refined and Cultured Mother Leaves Sorrowing Daughters.  Funeral Tuesday.

Another of Lake Odessa’s quiet, unassuming, gentle and devoted mothers leaves 
two daughters after long companionship together.  Mrs. Johnson was admired by 
her friends but she made little pretense of public activity, apparently 
preferring to make a pleasant home for her daughters.    People outside the 
home greatly admired her quiet, refined ways and her kindly smile was a 
friendly greeting.

Marcia May Tupper was born in Odessa township, February 19, 1866, daughter of 
Rev. Myron Tupper and Sophia Crapo Tupper.  Her father was a pioneer minister, 
a man of good education and some literary ability.  In early life she studied 
music, living some of the time in Ionia which afforded a better opportunity at 
that time.  She grew into a gracious and beautiful young woman.

May 29, 1882 she was married to Walter Johnson and came to live in the home 
from which she departed life on January 27, 1940.  Two daughters, Myrtie May 
and Gladys Fern were born in this home and survive their mother.  Mr. Johnson 
died in 1917.

Mrs. Johnson was a kind and helpful friend and neighbor.  Young in spirit she 
was most companionable to her daughters and their friends.  Her home was always 
open to a large circle of friends and relatives who will long remember her 
splendid Christian influence.  Her daughters have enjoyed the privilege of 
making her life easy and pleasant and will cherish a wonderful memory.  Her 
death occurred last Saturday, Jan. 27, 1940.
