Funeral at Home. Rev. A. T. Cartland and Rev. O.F. Bulman officiate. That a large circle of friends including those of this locality, and many more from other parts of the state, deeply sympathize with Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Johnson in the loss of their son Von, was shown last Tuesday afternoon by the large number who attended the funeral, and the large display of flowers sent by friends. These things, while they could bring little comfort to the bereaved family, were a sincere manifestation of friendship and sympathy at the loss of this, the youngest of the trio of sons. Von passed his fifteenth birthday March 6, and was apparently in good health at that time but an attack of “flu” developed into trouble that all science and skill could not allay and he passed away at Blodgett hospital Sunday morning of streptococcus infection. Von was a member of Central Methodist church, a boy scout, and a sophomore in our high school. He was a particularly thoughtful lad and admitted and loved by his young companions. The funeral was held at the home Tuesday afternoon, his pastor Rev. A. T. Cartland giving the reading and prayer and Rev. O. F. Bulman, his former pastor and scout master, the sermon. The music was by Mrs. Leon T. Gilson, piano, and Lawrence Gindl, cello. Burial was at Lakeside cemetery. Besides his parents, his brothers are Dwight of Toledo Aviation department and Walter of the Western State Normal college. A large number of friends from away were present to attend the funeral, among whom were, Mrs. Arthur Bair, Mr. and Mrs. Balford Bair and Miss Margaret Furniss, of Detroit; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Johnson, Knightson, Ind.; Albert Curtis, Kinross; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Batdorff, Sault Ste. Marie; Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Batdorff, Rudyard; Mr. and Mrs. Claud Batdorff, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Fisher, Mr. and Mrs. William Brummeler, Mrs. George Smith, all of Grand Rapids; Clyde Batdorff and sister Miss Mae Batdorff of Lansing; Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Johnson, Toledo, Ohio; Marion Anway, Clio; Mildred Geddis of Ypsilanti; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kingman, Fennville; Misses Josephine Baker and Margaret Erickson nurses of Butterworth hospital; Mr. and Mrs. Von Furniss, Nashville; Mrs. Frank Miller, Ionia; Mrs. Fremont Walter, Mr. and Mrs. Fred C. Walter and Mrs. Lee Otis, Saranac; Miss Dorothy Wooster and Miss Delora Branch of Albion; and six young men from the Albion fraternity of which Walter Johnson is a member.
