Johnson Buried Here Saturday Services were held last Saturday afternoon at Neller Funeral Home for Valmer Fremont Johnson, 56, co-owner of Portland Motor Sales, who passed away suddenly early last Thursday morning at his residence at 1147 Maynard Road. Mr. Johnson bought an automobile agency here from the Leik Brothers in 1944. In 1946 the agency was moved to a new building on east Grand River Ave. Later he entered into partnership with his son Robert. A noted traveler, Mr. Johnson along with his wife Isabel, had toured Central and South America by automobile last year. In additon they had previously toured North America extensively having visited every national park. Mr. Johnson had submitted many interesting accounts of his travels to the Review and Observer for publication. Survivors Surviving are the wife, Isabel; son, Robert J.; three grandchildren; and four sisters, Mrs. Lois Gallaway, of Leslie; Mrs. Gladys Riese of Manchester; Mrs. Gertrude Watters of Eden; and Mrs. Hazel McCreery of South Haven. Burial was in Portland cemetery and Rev. Park Newcombe officiated at the funeral. Bearers were Frederick Fedewa, Laban Smith, Jr., V. O. Whitmire, Mark Brokaw, Vern Moore and Lee WIlkinson. Additional Comments: Valmer was born in Paulding Ohio (1899-1956), he was the son of Florence A. Myers and Lutrell Johnson. His wife Isabel, was the daughter of ELizabeth Schwark and Charles McCrory of Michigan City, Indiana. Robert and Donna Johnson were the parents of Barbara, William and Marilyn.
