Johnson, 42, daughter of Mrs. Bessie Johnson, 306 Union street, died at 1:20 a.m. Saturday, September 14, at the Ingham hospital in Lansing following two months of illness. Miss Johnson was born in Chicago in 1893, and came to Ionia when she was about five years of age. She with her mother have made their home with Mrs. Johnson’s brother and sister, Miss Kate and Edward Mills, at 306 Union street. Miss Johnson graduated from the Ionia high school in 1913, and had been employed at the Ypsilanti-Reed Furniture company, the Michigan Porcelain Tile works and for the past three years was secretary to Willard Hawley at the Ionia County National bank. She was a great lover of music and art, and from her early childhood had participated in musical circles in Ionia. She was a charter member of the Ionia Business and Professional Women’s club and had always been one of its most active and progressive members, being president of the club during the year 1924-25. Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Bessie Johnson, of Ionia; father, George D. Johnson, of Chicago; an aunt and uncle, Miss Kate Mills and Edward Mills, of Ionia. Funeral services will be conducted from the residence at 306 Union street Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Interment at Oak Hill cemetery.
