Ionia Standard, 6 Apr 1883

Etahn S. Johnson died at his residence in this city on Tuesday morning last.  
Another of Ionia county’s pioneers gone to his rest.  He was born at 
Providence, Rhode Island, October 5, 1813.  In 1836 he removed to this county, 
where he continued to reside to the day of his death.  In June 1840 he married 
Jane Whipple who still survives him as do seven children, four sons and three 
daughters, all adults, and three of them married.  He has filled several 
positions of honor and trust in Ionia county including register of deeds for 
four years, and was a coroner and justice of the peace at the time of his 
death.  The funeral will take place from the residence of the deceased tomorrow 
afternoon at 2 o’clock.
