Johnson, 82, of 2826 North State road, died late Sunday evening at his home following an extended illness. Born in Ionia June 11, 1893, he was the son of Peter and Anna Johnson. He attended the Ionia schools and worked as an engineer for the Grand Trunk railroad. Married to Mamie Trovinger in Grand Rapids April 26, 1916, they made their home in Durand before moving to the Ionia area in 1922. He farmed in Ronald township, later going into partnership with a son, Max, on the farm and also into the oil and gas business on North State road. He retired in 1972. He and his wife Mamie, had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1966 and in April would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. He was a member of the Shiloh community church. Besides his wife, Mamie, he leaves four sons, max and Dale of Ionia and Clair and Frank of Orleans; two daughters, Mrs. Nick Marod of Grand Haven and Mrs. John (Joyce) Repik of Orleans; 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. A son, Lyle, died in 1959. Services will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Shiloh Community church. Rev. Kenneth Harger will officiate and interment will be at the Balcom cemetery.
