Johnson, 78, formerly of 627 Cyrus street, died Tuesday morning at the home of his daughter in Alexandria, La., where he and his wife had made their home the past two years. He was born in Kendall county, Ill., January 14, 1883 and came to Ionia in 1917. He resided here 44 years and was a farmer in Easton township until he moved into Ionia several years ago. The last 10 years prior to his retiring, he was employed at Ionia Manufacturing company. Mr. Johnson was a member of First Methodist church. He is survived by his wife, the former Retta Kroft, to whom he was married in 1904 at Aurora, Ill.; one son, Leonard Johnson of Grand Rapids; three daughters, Mrs. L. A. Brauer of Aurora, Ill., Mrs. C. A. Milton of Alexandria, La.; and Mrs. Gerald Yeomans of Ionia; one brother, Frank of Florida; two sisters, Mrs. John Swanson and Mrs. Lena Clark of Aurora, Ill.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at Boynton funeral home Friday at 2 p.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Harold A. Jayne of First Methodist church, and burial will be at Easton cemetery. The body will arrive in Ionia early Friday morning.
