Johnson, 69, of Ionia, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998 at Ionia County Memorial Hospital in Ionia. Mr. Johnson was born Jan. 30, 1929, in Kalamazoo, the son of Clarence and Vernice (Peabody) Johnson. He grew up in Ionia and graduated from Ionia High School in 1946. Mr. Johnson graduated from Ferris State University in 1950 with a B. S in Pharmacy. He was a member of the Rappa Alpha Phi fraternity of Ferris State. Mr. Johnson was also Secretary/Treasurer of the West Michigan Pharmaceutical Association, an Ionia Rotary Club member, and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ionia. Mr. Johnson owned and operated Townsend Drugs in Ionia from 1959 to 1978. He was married in Saginaw in 1954 to Lois O’Bell. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Lois; two daughters, Jill Sue Johnson of Middleville and Chris (Kevin) George of Hartland; two grandchildren, Megan and Patrick George; one sister, Carrol Hollar of Fenton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial services for Mr. Johnson will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at the First United Methodist Church, Ionia, with Rev. Lawrence Hodge officiating. Interment will be in Highland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Cook Funeral Home, Rich Street Chapel, Ionia. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church.
