The Belding Banner, Thursday, September 10, 1908

Robert P. Johnson was born Oct. 7, 1829, at Perry, N.Y.  Enlisted in the army 
of the Mexican war in 1847, served about 1½ years.  Came to Michigan in 1847, 
was married to Esther Gurnsey in 1851 and settled on the home farm and has 
since been one of Orleans most respected citizens, until his death on Sept. 6, 
1908.  He leaves to mourn their loss, the wife of his youth who has traveled 
lifes long journey by his side and by whom he had 4 sons, George, Warren, Elon 
and Arthur, the first two of whom have crossed death’s river and one daughter, 
Mrs. Rilla V. Warren who lives on the home farm.
