Viola Fern Johnson, 100, formerly of Ionia, died Thursday at Belding Christian 
Nursing Home.  She was born March 27, 1888, in Lakeview, Mich., the daughter 
of Seymour and Edith Goodliffe Curtis.

She was married to T. Purl Johnson in May 1919.  They owned and operated for 
many years before retiring.  Her husband died Aug. 26, 1962.  She was also 
preceded in death by an infant son, Richard, on May 10, 1923.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ionia and of that church’s 
C.C.W. Class.

She is survived by one son, Frederick Johnson of Greenville; two 
grandchildren, Edward and Jayne; and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. from the Cook Funeral Home, 
with the Rev. Timothy Gillette officiating.  Burial will be in Easton 
Cemetery.  The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday.  
A memorial has been established for First Baptist Church, in care of the 
funeral home.
