Johnson, 72, of Woods Rd., Orleans, died Monday morning at his residence. He was born in Stanton on October 2, 19, the son of Herbert and Ella Fischer Johnson. The family moved to Belding where he attended schools. He married Helen Piper at her parents home on Woodard Lake on February 14, 195. They made their home on a farm in Ronald Township. He farmed until 1964 then he started work at A.O. Smith Corp. in Ionia. In 1967 he started work for the Ionia Public School system as a maintenance man at Emerson School for 10 years. He retired in 1977. They have made their home on Woods Road for the past seven years. He was a member of the Paly United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife; three sons, James of Ionia, John of Wellmington, North Carolina, and Jay of Ionia; one sister, Mrs. Mildred Towne of Belding; and eight grandchildren. Two sons, two brothers and one sister preceeded him in death. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Palo United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Johnson officiating. Interment will be in the Woodard Lake Cemetery. Friends and relatives may visit at the Leddick Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2- 4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial has been established for the Palo United Methodist Church.
