He was born Aug. 15, 1932 in Montcalm Twp., the son of Douglas and Florence (Munson) Johnson. In 1950 he graduated from Greenville HS and took a short course at Michigan State and then went into the National Guard. He worked at McInerny Spring and Wire and Reynolds metals. At McInerny he had the nickname of Rock. He was a hobby farmer for many years and when his oldest son graduated he became a full time farmer, and in 1999 he was the Potato Grower of the year. He was a member of the Amble United Methodist Church for 54 years. Roscoe loved his grandchildren, playing pool and walking the Mackinaw Bridge on Labor Day and dancing. For the last 12 years he and his wife wintered in Apache Junction, Ariz. where he leaves behind many friends. On Feb. 21, 1953 he married the Love of his life Izola Davis, who survives. He is also survived by three sons Greg (Dolores), Douglas (Helen), and Marvin (Lisa) all of Amble, one daughter, Connie McClain of Oklahoma; 13 grandchildren; one brother, Chester (Peggy) Johnson of Greenville; one sister, Edith Tallman of Grand Rapids; a sister-in-law Pat Johnson of Greenville and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alvin and Don and a son- in-law Mac McClain. Memorial services will take place on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Amble United Methodist Church with Pastor Bryan Schneider Thomas officiating with Inurnment in the Amble Cemetery. Memorials to Amble United Methodist or Montcalm County Fair may be left at the Heckman Funeral home where friends may call on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
