He was born July 20, 1915, in Lake Odessa, the son of R.C. “Sam” and Marjorie Jane Stevens Johnson. Bob graduated from high school at the age of 16 and later graduated from Michigan State College. In 1949, he founded Jordan Manufacturing Co. in Belding. Bob truly loved and enjoyed the design and construction of tools, dies, equipment and ideas relating to industry. He developed a number of products for business and industry. He worked closely for many years with Schwinn Bicycles in Chicago, designing and manufacturing parts for their bicycles. Bob continued to work even well into his 80s. Bob owned and enjoyed his antique autos, owning a number of rare and unusual autos. He was a member of the Horseless Carriage Club of America, the Smyrna Social Club, the Historical Society of Lake Odessa, the Goodfellowship Club and the Flat River Antique Auto Club. He was a father to many exchange and foster children. He married Thelma Everest on Aug. 24, 1940, in Lake Odessa. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; his parents; three brothers, Benjamin, Gerald and Royal; and one sister, Harriet. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Johnson; their children, Betty Jo and Anthony Jackson of Lake Odessa, Steven and Karlene Johnson of Smyrna; grandchildren, Jane and Vernon Reed, Jennifer Johnston, Justin Johnson, Joana Johnson; great-grandchildren, Perry Snook, Robert Reed, Mattison Johnston; and his sister, Betty Anderson of Grand Haven. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, with Pastor Darwyn Hassert officiating. Interment is in Lakeside Cemetery, Lake Odessa. Visitation is 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Belding Museum or the Alvah N. Belding Library.
