Jan. 31, 2012 Thelma M. Johnson, 93, of Smyrna/Belding, passed away peacefully at Green Acres in Greenville on Jan. 27, 2012. Thelma was born in Lake Odessa on March 22, 1918 to Harry and Dora Everest. She attended the Lake Odessa School and Davis Tech in Grand Rapids. She married Robert S. (Bob) Johnson in Lake Odessa on Aug. 24, 1940. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage. Thelma was a member of several literary and social clubs as well as a partner in a fabric and custom clothing store. Thelma and Bob were hosts to many exchange students from Sweden, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and Japan. She is survived by her children, Betty Jo (Anthony) Jackson of Lake Odessa, Steve (Karlene) Johnson of Smyrna; grandchildren, Janie Reed of Belding, Jennifer (Marcus) Bosch of Hyde Park, Ill., Justin (Sachiko) Johnson of Greenville, Joana Johnson of Belding and Brazilian daughter Ana Chiles of Bakersfield, Calif.; five great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren. Thelma is also survived by her sister in law; Betty Anderson of Grand Haven and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents; husband; siblings, Louisa, Vera, Martha, Raymond and Charles; and grandson-in-law, Vern Reed. Cremation has already taken place according to her wishes. A private burial service will bake place in lakeside Cemetery, Lake Odessa. Those wishing to make a memorial gesture may consider the Alvah N. Belding Library, Green Acres Assisted Living of Greenville Activities Fund or an institution of your choosing that enriches the lives of the elderly.
