IONIA- Vernice E. Johnson, 76, of 202 Morse St., Ionia, died Sunday in Ionia 
County Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Ionia County in May 27, 1903, the daughter of Frank and Bertha 
(Rosenfelder) Peabody.

She attended school in Ionia and graduated from Ionia High School.  She 
graduated from Western Michigan State Teachers College in Kalamazoo.

She taught school in Mattawan and the Kalamazoo school system.

Mrs. Johnson married Clarence S. Johnson on Sept. 2, 1925. They made their home 
in Kalamazoo for 10 years, them moved to Ionia.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a past matron of the 
Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Ladies Literary Club, the Ionia 
County Historical Society and the Ionia Hospital Guild.

She is survived by her husband; one son, Kenneth of Ionia; one daughter, Mrs. 
Robert (Carol) Hollar of Fenton; one brother, Raymond of Ionia; one sister, 
Edith Volker of Ionia; and one grandchild.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with 
the Rev. Carl Hausermann officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends and relatives in Leddick Funeral Home from 2 to 
4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Memorials have been established for First United 
Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. Contributions may be left 
at the funeral home.
